Seven ‘speedy’ staff from a Southport based asset management company have each pledged to run, cycle or walk 79 miles this month (July) to raise funds for a local hospice.

The magnificent seven, from The 79th Group, are seeking sponsorship for their efforts in support of Claire House Children’s Hospice in the Wirral, which helps seriously and terminally ill children and their families through the most difficult of times.

The company, which manages property and gold mining assets in the UK and Africa, chose the hospice as its charity for 2021 and is encouraging staff to do their bit in support.

In addition, the initiative will encourage staff to leave the car at home and try healthier travel to work options, reducing CO2 emissions, in line with the company’s Green Mark accreditation and Environmental, Social and Governance policy.

And so, Managing Director, Jake Webster, 28 and from Birkdale and his brother Curtis, 24, the Investment Director, from Aughton, will be joined by Chief Operating Officer, Natalie Bellis, 34, from Liverpool; Office and Accounting Manager, Ashley Weston, 23, from Billinge, Chris Conlon, 30, Head of IT and from Liverpool; Social Media and Content Manager, Alexandra Welsh, 30, from Newcastle and Investments Officer, Alexander Jenkinson, 27, from Southport, on the 79 mile challenge.

They aim to raised as much money as possible – donations can be made at https://gofund.me/80a2761e – but as a guide, £7.90 could fund a homemade shortbread and support from a bereavement specialist; £79 could fund four hours of a nurses specialist care and £790 could fund a week of Butterfly Care for a family whose child has sadly passed away.

Said Jake Webster:  “As a family run business we are committed to giving something back to the communities in which we operate. This past year has been challenging for so many people, so it’s important that we champion causes close to our hearts and those of the neighbourhoods in which we work.

“We can’t begin to imagine what the children and their families utilising Claire House are going through. We hope that in a small way our donation can help make a very challenging time that little bit easier.  If we all get into a little better shape along the way, then that’s a bonus.”

Josh Worrall, Partnerships Manager at Claire House Children’s Hospice, said:  “Our deepest thanks to everyone at the 79th Group for supporting us once again.  The help will enable us to continue to support families during what must already be the hardest of times. We really can’t thank the 79 milers enough.”

The 79th Group was started by entrepreneur David Webster, whose career in investments began over 30 years ago. Using the skills learned from working in his father’s retail business, he diversified into property and currently owns a multi-million property portfolio.

The group now includes high end residential development company, 79th Luxury Living; a residential and commercial letting business, and gold mining operation Lusso Tesoro which recently agreed deals to acquire several gold mining concessions in north eastern Guinea.
